You know, July14th is Bastille Day. All I know about Bastille Day is: I live above a creperie, and on Bastille Day that place is bonkers busy with sexy people eating crepes on the sidewalk. So I like to think Bastille Day is about hot girls and guys eating crepes with one hand and smoking a cigarette with the other hand while drinking sooo much wine with the third hand.
So with that in mind I think it’s fitting that we have selected The Dandy Warhols Are Sound for release on July 14th, 2009.
We have been whispering to you about The Dandy Warhols Are Sound for quite some time. Long story short, or if you just got to our party, late 2001 and into 2002 we recorded an album’s worth of tracks here in Portland and took those tracks to New York’s Electric Lady Studios to mix with famed mixing engineer Russell Elavedo, and the result of those mixing sessions was The Dandy Warhols Are Sound. We absolutely loved this record. However, Capitol, our label a the time, did not. They opted out of using our preferred mixes and remixed the record on their own to create Welcome To The Monkey House, a great album that we, and most of you, also love.
Meanwhile, The Dandy Warhols Are Sound just sat there. Oh, it got played. It was a staple at Odditorium parties from the start. But there are just so many people who are at any given Odditorium party. We had always intended to release this unheard gem on our own, but life and other records and tours and babies and crepes and red wine got in the way. Now finally, after almost seven years, on July 14, 2009 The Dandy Warhols will be proud to present to you The Dandy Warhols Are Sound.
Dandy Warhols release "Dandy Warhols Are Sound" & announce September tour dates:

Amadou & Mariam Announce Spring Tour Husband & wife teams are a bit of the rage touring right now with Bird & Bee, Dresden Dolls, Mistress Stephanie, and well . . . Husband & Wife among others making party music for us and piling up stress on their relationships. Go ahead and add Mariam Doumbia and her husband Amadou Bagayoko, better known as Amadou & Mariam, to my woefully incomplete list. For 30 years A & M have been making and performing their ballad/Afro-pop music. Welcome To Mali, their latest LP releases March 24th, and the duo plan a Spring tour in support. These are big venues, so in a struggling $$$ environment the artists are showing confidence that M & A can place paying butts in seats. Just last month in San Diego Political Afro-Pop sensation Fema Kouti had to cancel a gig at the much smaller capacity House of Blues [when compared to Cricket in Chula Vista] for lack of ticket sales. hmmm. This week, the spotlight is on a little girl with big potential from Hermosa Beach, California. Heir to the happy-go-plucky pop throne of Ingrid Michaelson and Sara Bareilles (with a voice to match), Katie Costello matches her contemporaries with pleasant atmospheres and a delightfully quirky aesthetic. The self-proclaimed kazoo virtuoso cites jazz and folk as two big influences. And clocking in at just seventeen years old, the songs are surprisingly mature too. Costello's first record, Kaleidoscope Machine, was independently released last November and featured a catchy song of the same name which made it's way to a spot on the CW's 90210 revamp. Costello will be cutting school for the next two months to tour the US, where her sun-soaked songs will hopefully help warm the colder corners of the country.
Kaleidoscope Machine is available now on iTunes. Kazoo lessons not included.

On April 28, melodic crooners Great Northern are releasing Remind Me Where The Light Is, the follow-up to their 2007 debut, via Eenie Meenie Records. The sophomore release finds them taking bigger risks, honing the darker aspects of their music to create a bolder sound. The band worked with producers Nic Jodoin and Michael Patterson (Beck, Black Rebel Motorcycle Club, Beck, Puff Daddy, She Wants Revenge, amongst others) to help expand their sound while retaining the hauntingly layered vocals found on their debut, Trading Twilight For Daylight. "Houses," the first single, is available now from the label's website.

The kids can't get enough PB&J. It's been three years since US audiences first got a taste of Peter Bjorn And John's sticky Swedish pop with the smash, Writer's Block. They'll finally release the follow-up, Living Thing (Almost Gold/StarTime International), on March 31. Although it seems like quite a while since they last provided us with sweet ditties to whistle, the threesome has not been hibernating. They released the predominately instrumental album, Seaside Rock, Bjorn Yttling took on production work for a slew of artists including Lykke Li, Sahara Hotnights, the Feeling, and Primal Scream and lead singer Peter Moren released The Last Tycoon (Quarterstick), his solo debut.

San Diego local Blogger gone bedroom twiddler, WAVVES, has signed to Fat Possum Records. Once known for diligently searching out aged, unheard southern bluesmen, Fat Possum have expanded their search for scrunchy field recordings to include youngins like WAVVES. Basically the bedroom noodlings of one Nathan Daniel William, Wavves falls into that area of closet rapper as naval gazer who even more secretly wishes to out-plunder Times New Viking with the psych-punk un-fi thing.
With a self-titled record already out on Woodsist, WAVVES' sophomore slice, WAVVVES, which was earlier announced as being released by De Stijl, will in fact be released by Fat Possum on March 17. Got that? But if WAVVES names their next album WAVVVVES, our patience will be tested.
